The final touch to a new library design
Hydestor Shelving worked in partnership with the Christchurch City Council, Architectus and Octa to design, manufacture, supply and install shelving systems throughout the 5 levels of the largest library in the South Island.
In total Hydestor installed 5500 lineal meters of shelving, most of the design was taken from Hydestor’s extensive range of standard parts, however we did come up with a few different items to suit the design requirements.
Working with JB Joinery we worked out how to attach the solid American White Oak end panels and canopies to our shelving, the results speak for themselves. The Rollaway units on the ground floor were also re engineered to have hidden wheels.
On level 2 we installed a publicly used mechanically driven mobile shelving system which can hold 756 lineal meters of books in a area of 56.7 square meters, generally these units are only used in store rooms.
